Executive Resume Guide for Senior Leaders
An executive resume should communicate leadership scope, business impact and strategic relevance quickly. It should make the scale of your decisions and outcomes easier to understand than a list of responsibilities alone.
What senior recruiters need to see
Depending on the role, the resume may need to clarify commercial responsibility, organizational scale, leadership scope, transformation, market expansion, governance, operational improvement or stakeholder exposure.
Show outcomes with context
A result becomes more meaningful when the reader can understand the challenge, the action you led and the scale or consequence of the outcome. Use accurate numbers where they are available and appropriate to disclose.
Avoid a responsibility-only narrative
Senior titles do not explain the complexity of a role by themselves. Prioritize the decisions, outcomes and leadership situations most relevant to the opportunity you are pursuing.
Align resume and LinkedIn
Your resume and LinkedIn profile should reinforce the same professional positioning without becoming identical documents. The resume is a focused career argument; LinkedIn is a broader searchable profile.
